I live in Hanoi, love being focused designing stuff and teamwork games.

Living in such a chill city as Hanoi shapes my personality a lot. I love immersing myself in my zone doing design with lo-fi music on. But I also love team activities, from team sports to team card games. I love being helpful for others, assisting others especially making others happy with what I do, even better if that’s my design helping others.

My design principles - stuff that I always keep in mind when designing

My design principles - stuff that I always keep in mind when designing

FLEXIBLE

Every job is different. Sometimes I need to dig deep in research, sometimes I need to deliver really fast. I'm always ready for any kind of brief & requirement.

VISUAL FOCUSED

For me, good UI is as important as good UX. In fact, UI is the first thing that users see when using the product, so I always craft my UI design with care.

ITERATIVE

No designer can deliver perfectly on first try (Maybe some superhuman can). I always try to deliver fast, learn from the feedback and deliver better.

My full-time design job experience has been diverse. I’m grateful for that a lot.

My full-time design job experience has been diverse. I’m grateful for that a lot.

From collaborating with every role in a product team to working in a fast-moving design outsource unit of 40+ energetic designers, the start of my design career has been blessed with diverse experiences. I’m not entitled to doing the same kind of job over and over again, and I’m fortunate enough to get what I want: Constantly changing in stakeholders, scopes of work, duration of jobs and overall, design experience.

My first full-time experience ever. Base.vn is a B2B platform to make enterprises manage everything better. Literally everything. Base.vn has 50+ mini apps and here are the ones I had been in charge:

I worked with a team of 10+ members with all the roles of a typical product team: Product Owner, Business Analysts, Developers, Testers. My role is to design features screens based on Product Owner’s roadmap, Business Analyst documentation & communicate with developers and testers to check the final output. It was fun, as we all pursued one joint goal of making the platform better.

I moved to FPT Software - GST.STUDIO unit in 2023 with the hope to grow my design expertise to a new level (There are only 6 designers in Base.vn at the time I left). GST.STUDIO has 40+ experienced designers working with renowned clients domestically & globally. Being surrounded by that much experts helped me answer my questions faster & explore more effective ways of approaching design process. I’m able to expand my experience working with diverse clients as well:

Working with stakeholders in GST.STUDIO has really come to a new extent. Besides the typical roles of a product team, I also have review sessions with the clients and the design lead of GST.STUDIO. I also experience planning design sprint with the clients and collaborate with clients and Project Manager to consolidate function list for each sprint, which adds up to my freelance experience a lot!

Freelancing is a real deal side quest for me. I have been through so many types of clients.

When I mean diverse, I mean real diverse. From real products to presentation mock screens, from web platform to mobile app, from finding applicable UX solution to crafting attractive UI, I’ve tasted a bit of everything. Working with flexible timeline, getting to be in charge of everything, talking to different clients on my own terms, there is nothing better than that (yet)!

Working with real-product clients help me hone my communication and delivery skills (design also, of course!). I’ve learned how to discuss pricing, timeline and deliver with their requirements in mind while keep being creative. Some real-product clients I’ve worked with, most of them are start-ups:

A thing that I found out after freelancing for a while is that: It is easier to retain existing clients than find new one, if you deliver quality output. I’ve been able to do that with VUCAR and SNAPVID.AI, as when they need designer for a new feature, I would pop up as their first option as I had delivered quality output for them before. A tip that works well for me!

As mentioned, I also take jobs for presentation purpose. These are mostly jobs from my friends & relatives, so requirement from them are different than from real-product clients. The requirements are often visually focused and with FAST DEADLINE. Some of those:

I would have never made it without the very first Adobe XD tutorial from YouTube that made me realize “Ah! There is a design domain besides art that may fit me”. Since 2020, I’ve been constantly learning from any platform that I could besides real life experience in design jobs. I registered for UX Mentorship Program in 2022 as a mentee to learn from industry leading experts & energetic peers in UX/UI Design. During a period of 3 months, we had conducted a full project from research to design to prototype. I also got to present the project output in front of a 100-people audience.

Mingg Patreon is a great space for me and many designers to learn UI Design in such a systematic way. I learned how to define a layout, conduct moodboard and visual direction in a way that win clients' approvals. Since joining the Patreon, I find myself approaching visual design in a more step-by-step process point of view

Besides programs, I have also taken up a lot of tutorials, mostly from YouTube and Instagram. I learn lots of stuff with those tutorials, from how to design better UI, come up with UX solution to better way to utilize Figma & no-code web builder like Webflow and Framer to even how to communicate better as a designer. Some of the creators that I watch lots of videos from while learning design, I recommend watching them if you want to be a better designer too!
